Racism is in Such Short Supply, Folks are Making it Up

Here's a 2019 list of faux hate crimes. I'll update it when I find a more current one, or when Instapundit does, as it's where I found this one. Continue Reading

Racism, Progressive Style

University of Washington says black students should be graded differently

They say "they are too “busy fighting for [their] rights to sit down and study”.". but half the people in the photo are not black.

So, looks to me like these "progressives" think black students aren't as capable as other students.

They have always thought this. They believe people of color can't make it without their help.

We React Accordingly

They are at it again.

A few seconds of video, a picture, and bam! We are outraged!

On cue, we react accordingly.

The black community reacts accordingly because this is the *only* time the media pays any attention to them. Dozens of beautiful minds murdered every week in places like Chicago, St Louis, Memphis, Camden, etc., but not a peep out of the media, other than the obligatory body count.

Outside the black community, others react accordingly as well. Some by signaling their virtue with outrage, others by apologizing.

Some, the opportunist leftists, create havoc.

Some, admittedly, are generally concerned. Unfortunately, the toppling of statues, desecration of gravesites, etc. by the opportunists muffles their calls for real action.

In the end, things will go back to a semblance of normal, but there will be some incremental change, other than a lack of historical statuary, that will eventually form the pile of socialism that is building in the US.

Mission Creep

I noticed the other day, via Conservative Scalawag, that the government is trying to seize 7 million bucks worth of silver from a guy.

While the story is interesting in its' own right, this caught my eye:

That's partly why von NotHaus' group has been followed for years by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that tracks political extremism.
I know a bit about the SPLC, and I'd say that's a generalization at best. More like a mischaracterization.

Their agenda isn't about political extremism in a broad sense. They have a very narrow focus. It used to be strictly about white on black violence. Now they run the (narrow) gamut.

Let's just say groups like ELF aren't listed on their "hate map" (no link for them, screw 'em) I also find it funny how the racist groups are sanitized by using terms like "White Nationalist" and "Black Separatist" while others get more specific names like "Anti-Immigrant". The best one, by far, is "General Hate".

I've worked for a few Generals in my time, never has one been bad enough to form a hate group over.

The SPLC is in the same boat as affirmative action and trade unions - no longer needed, but still fighting to stay relevant.

Wrong, Again

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous, in reacting to the resignation of Shirley Sherrod, says the following:

Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race.
No, racism is not the abuse of power, it is a belief one or more races are inferior to others.

When you take that attitude and act on it, then you have abuse of power. It's called discrimination. This time it was based on race. Other times it can be based on sex, religion, skin color...

Or gun ownership. Continue Reading

Rule of Law City?

Not all of California is totally bat shit crazy - take Costa Mesa, for instance:

Costa Mesa declares itself a 'rule of law' community

The Costa Mesa City Council has voted unanimously to declare itself a "rule of law" community, further widening the divide over illegal immigration in the central Orange County city.

Of course, not everybody is happy about a government saying it will obey the law:
Costa Mesa 'Rule of Law' decision prompts outcry

More immigrant rights' organizations are publicly condemning Costa Mesa's self-designation as a "Rule of Law City," with one group calling on residents to evacuate the city.

Here's the quote that gets me, though, and one the media keeps pushing (emphasis mine):

In a statement, Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, said, "The cancer of intolerance that has afflicted Arizona with the passage of SB1070 has now metastasized to the City of Costa Mesa. By declaring itself a "Rule of Law City," Costa Mesa has voted to make life a living hell for immigrants and their families."
No, you ignorant twit, it voted to deal with illegal immigrants, not legal ones.

I doubt you will find any clear-thinking American who is against immigration. After all, this nation was founded by immigrants. But to label the fight against illegal immigration as "anti immigrant" and "racist" is disingenuous and manipulative, and is the true source of the division and hatred surrounding this issue.

Reverse Discrimination

What is "reverse discrimination"? Beats me.

I can tell you what it doesn't mean. It doesn't mean, like this headline (and many like it) says - anytime a person of Caucasian descent experiences disparate treatment and files suit, somehow they are in a different situation than someone identified as a minority under the same circumstances.

Discrimination is discrimination. Using terms like "reverse discrimination" only serves to reinforce the notion that equal treatment under the law is only for minorities and women - white guys need not apply.

Thoughts

In this post over at Instapundit, he shows pictures of people in attendance who are other than white. One comment he got was:

‘You found photos of 6 black people at tea parties! Thats proof that there isn’t any racism going on at the protests. Take that Dems! Keep up the good work.”

I do see the point - one could easily see that post as a case of "some of my best friends are ______ ". It's also easy to throw that accusation whenever the issue is brought up.

The fact remains most attendees were white. That's undeniable. But one thing I want to point out is the few non-white people in attendance, be them black, islander, Asian Indian, Arab, etc., came, attended, and went without a single incident.

Would that have happened if the tea parties were a racist event?

Just askin'.

I Agree With Atty General Holder

He said:

in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards
We are cowards. When Al Sharpton, Rep Meeks, Barbara Ciara and others goes public and yells racism over this story, we are cowards for not telling him to shut up and grow up:

Newsflash, morons, the President doesn't write bills, he signs or vetoes them.

Also, why can one President be called a chimp on a regular basis:

But the next one can't? I think the word "coward" would apply there, too.

Racism is racism, folks, there's no "reverse" about it.

The only problem I would have had with the cartoon would have been if it was referring to the President. Not because of the monkey thing, but because of the bullet holes in the monkey. That's not cool.

(thanks to Conservative Scalawag for the above photo)

Just When You Thought Memphis ...

... couldn't get any stupider, they do this.

Memphis City Council OKs police living beyond Shelby County line

After weeks of studying the issue following a controversial November vote, the council on Tuesday approved 8-5 allowing new police hires to live within 20 miles outside of the Shelby County line if they pay an annual fee of $1,400.
(emphasis mine)

And, because we can't have Memphis doing dumb shit all by itself, we now have this:

Lawsuit Filed Over Police Residency

A lawsuit, you say? Someone pointing out that the annual fee is Just Plain Stupid, you say?

Not hardly:
Bailey claims the move is a way to hire more white officers
[headdesk]

Memphis Tennessee, pushing the limits of stupid one day at a time.

I've talked about this issue before, but if you want a great rundown on what's taking place, go check out Mediaverse: Memphis.

Addressing Racial Slurs

It’s Time To Stop The ‘Redneck’ Slurs

Yes, that’s right, “redneck” is a slur. Some folks in the 21st century, including myself, embrace it as a symbolic term of endearment for the hard-working everyman. But historically speaking, “redneck” is a stereotypical slur aimed unfairly at all white Southerners, and then some, for more than a century now.

Let's Hope that will Change in the near future. After all, we're supposed to be all of one mind now, aren't we? We're all Americans again, right?

We are, at least, till one of them celebrity Lear Jets has a layover in Jackson, Mississippi, or maybe Oklahoma City. Then, we'll be rednecks again. In flyover country.

It can't come soon enough.

Hat tips to the Reynolds family. Glenn for the first link, Dr. Helen for the second.

Conflicted

I have conflicting feelings about this story:

Two Tennessee state legislators unveiled a plan Tuesday in front of Memphis City Hall that would go over the heads of Memphis City Council members to force the city to drop its residency requirement for police officers.

The short version: those guys want to enact a state law that would outlaw residency requirements for any police force with over 2000 employees.

The only city that fits that description and has a residency requirement? Memphis. All the other major cities do not have residency requirements.

I'm conflicted because I like government to be done at the lowest level possible. The state shouldn't tell the city what to do with its police force.

However, when the city can't fill 200 police force vacancies because they won't drop the residency requirement due to the rampant racism of the city council, then maybe handling it at the state level is the right thing to do.

Race Relations

Something tells me this category will be getting a lot more use in the next four years. That's a good thing, I think.

First, Baldilocks has thoughts on the latest Zawahiri tape:

Zawahiri used the word 'abd' which means both slave and Negro. Big Media seems to have only just translated this magical bit of evidence of Arabic racism and are scandalized, no doubt because their hero has been insulted. Soon they will "discover" that Arab Islamists are enslaving black Africans right now!

A language that uses the same word for both "negro" and "slave". Not much doubt what place black folks hold in their society, is there?

Then there's James T. Harris (who I need to read more often) on adoption policies here in America:

If Obama can be raised by a white mother and white grandparents and go on to be elected to the highest office in the land, what excuse can black zealots offer for blocking the adoption of black children to white parents?
Thanks to Elliot for the pointer.

My hope is that the education stigma gets lifted from the black community. Although it's never been "cool" to be a brainiac/egghead, there's been a real resistance in the black (and latino) community to applying oneself at school.

Hopefully, now that Obama has been elected, more kids won't be accused of "acting white" for trying to get a good education. Hey, I'm not the one who came up with this idea. I'm just agreeing with it.

Memphis' Continued Decline

On full display here. The plan? To allow Memphis police officers to live outside the city limits:

Despite having the support of Mayor Willie Herenton, Memphis Police Department director Larry Godwin, the Memphis Police Association, Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton and the city's most powerful corporations, the council voted 7-6 along racial lines to kill the plan.
Memphis, you all have to let go of this racism. You can't get qualified applicants from within your borders. What are you afraid of?

It's More Than Kind of Racist

Ahab points us to a completely out of touch opinion piece at the Philadelphia Inquirer.

But we should never forget that in the late 20th century, ultra-Christian, antistatist and white-supremacist groups flourished in the states of the Pacific Northwest - called by many the "Great White Northwest" - the very region that Sarah Palin and her family call home.
The thing is, the author doesn't understand the term "diversity". Making statements like this proves it:

Although home to tens of thousands of native peoples, Alaska is not much different in terms of diversity from the other states of the region. African Americans live in areas near important military installations in Anchorage and Fairbanks and almost nowhere else.
Ok, so the term "diversity" only applies to African-American peoples? Since when? Since the term "racist" only applies to European-Americans, I guess. (I can hyphenate with the best of them, I tell ya).

I find it funny that an educated person like Catherine McNicol Stock can write such a biased, racist piece and have it published in a major paper.

Racism and Elections

Armed & Dangerous has an interesting post entitled The Post-Racial Hall of Mirrors.

Most of us, especially left-liberals, have been successfully indoctrinated in the PC-racism of perpetual and collective white guilt. We believe simultaneously that we must atone and can never really atone enough. We’ve been taught to look in the mirror and see a racist even if we ourselves are innocent of any desire to oppress blacks; still more, we’ve been taught to look at other whites and see racists even though we know nothing about their intentions or their behavior towards individual blacks.

It's a really well done piece, IMO. Read it all.

RIP - Don Haskins

I spent a lot of time in El Paso while in the Army. Being in Air Defense will do that to you.

One constant there was a guy they called The Bear, UTEP Basketball coach Don Haskins. He died yesterday at the age of 78.

Don isn't as well known as he should be. He kicked down what was left of the NCAA's color barrier in 1966, and won 719 games total. Here's the money quote from that game (emphasis mine):

Later asked about his decision to start five African American players, Haskins downplayed the significance of his decision. "I really didn't think about starting five black guys. I just wanted to put my five best guys on the court," Haskins was later quoted as saying. "I just wanted to win the game."
Wow, the whole "ability over appearance" thing. From a small town West Texas coach. Go figure.
Rest in Peace, Don. Our world's a better place for having you in it.

More "Who Said It?"

So, who said this:

I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position.
Answer is below the fold.

Abraham Lincoln

Yeah, the Douglas reference gives it away, doesn't it?
