Suicide Notes From the Left

Sarah Hoyt talks about how the Left is crying out in pain.

Why? Anybody's guess. I think Agent Smith is on to something, though. (the good part starts around .30):

Is it possible that when life gets too easy, we have to make up stressors to make our existence tolerable?

Are the various "isms", which do actually exist, being used to manufacture conflict?

Best I can come up with for now.

Flipping the Election

More Sam Adams

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men."

I Ain't Buying It

This Presidential election is screwey on all counts. Lots of folks have pointed out the statistical anomalies, incongruent voting patterns, etc..

Here's mine - Trump, in losing *shattered* Obama's 2008 vote tally of 69.5 million. Remember that election? He was an excellent teleprompter reader, and the media had thrills running down their leg. Pure enthusiasm.

Trump, so far, has 72.9 million votes.

Biden has 78.5.

I cannot believe that 8 million voters were more concerned with rude, crass tweets than record employment, stock market, and GDP growth.

And if they were, may their chains set lightly upon them.

Trouble

Remember when Obama swept into office in 2008? The energy, the buzz, the popularity?

You knew he was going to be elected, and he was, with a record 69.5 million votes.

Now, look at this election. Biden had few rallies, and the ones he had were sparsely attended (and I'm being nice). Right now, with votes still left to be counted, he has over 72 million votes.

It's not sour grapes, it's fraud.

Don't forget, the Republicans are learning to use the same tactics the Democrats use.

It's come down to this, and we are all in very big trouble.

So, if Trump loses, what's next?

I'm not talking about the country, it's going to be OK.

Not fine, not good, just OK. We won't see any more record setting employment numbers or GDP growth, but it won't be all bad. The Senate should still be a buffer, and the House is tighter than it was before.

But, what about Trump?

Heh

He'll be pissed, and motivated. His focus will be to become Grover Cleveland 2.0.

He's got the audience. He's got the money. And you better believe he's got the desire.

The first two years will be full of screeching by the Democrats, hurling every -ism in the book at the obstructionist Senate, especially if Biden gets drummed out by Pelosi and Co. Trump would be wise to employ the motto attributed to Napoleon: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

Then, because of the screeching, the Dems will lose the house, and the Trump Train will go into overdrive. It will be a sight to behold, I'm sure.

Hopefully, by then, the mechanism used to enhance the Democrat vote count will be discovered, and taken apart.

Make no mistake: the first four years of Trump has seriously damaged the liberal agenda. Four more consecutive years would cripple it for a generation.

Maybe a little break in the deconstruction would be a good thing?

Connecticut Gun Laws

It didn't take them long. Last Friday, on the way home from work, NPR had EJ Dionne calling for gun control. He must carry his blood-dancing shoes with him at all times, to be able to start the Casualty Can-Can on such short notice.

So, lacking any new ideas in gun control circles, we can count on them to trot out the same old crap. With that in mind, let's look at Connecticut's gun control laws, courtesy of those paragons of freedom, the Brady Bunch (no link for them, fuck 'em).

- It scores 58 0ut of 100 points Only New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California scored higher
- It requires background checks on long guns at gun shows
- It requires a state permit to purchase handguns
- It requires trigger locks be sold with all guns.
- It bans "assault weapons" with 2 or more "assault features"*

All this, and he-who-shall-not-be-named still managed to bring the crazy.

We definitely need to have a conversation, but not about gun control.

*I made that up, but it's accurate :-). Continue Reading

Obama Won, and I'm Glad...

... and here's the reason:

If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.
Seriously, think about it. A former community organizer, running a negative campaign rife with class warfare and the politics of division, loses his bid for re-election.

His substantial ego crushed, he is no longer "the man".

What does he do now?

Or, more to the point, what does the former community organizer do now?

See where I'm going with this?

I truly think he would have become Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton on steroids, and he would have been very, very effective at it. I'll leave the details to your imagination (kinda like his 2008 campaign)

So now, he has four more years, unencumbered by re-election concerns. If he has a good four , he'll ride off into the sunset, with the occasional speaking engagement when the taxes on his Hawaiian estate come due. A bad four? Same thing, he'll just be slinking instead of riding.

Either way, we have what we have: either a a big ol' shit sammich, and we are all gonna have to take a bite, or rainbow colored unicorns DO exist, and everything will be hunky dory.

I think the law of unintended consequences will be in full force, and no one knows what's gonna happen. But, I'm prepping . Continue Reading

Why I'm Voting for Romney/Ryan

I decided to vote for Romney a while back, even though I voted for Paul in the primary. While, at first glance, Romney seems to be a less-than-ideal candidate, I think he has the potential for a Regan-like Presidency.

Romney draws criticism from the right for things he did as governor, and from the left for things he did at Bain. What some folks seem to miss is that he did the job he was elected/hired to do, and did it well.

As Massachusetts governor, he signed gun control legislation and Romneycare into existence. Folks, it was MASSACHUSETTS fer cryin' out loud! It's how they roll up there. Jay and Bruce can fill you in, if you don't already know.

At Bain, he offshored jobs. Guess what, folks. He was brought on to make the company money, and when taxes, regulations and the associated costs of doing business go too high, that's where the jobs go!

Then there's "he took government money to save the Salt Lake City Olympics" line. Well, duh. The Olympics needed saving, our government didn't want the international embarrassment of a failed Olympics, so there you go. To me, taking government money was perfectly acceptable.

So, there you go. Mitt is my guy. He's done well at every major job he's been put in charge of, I have no reason to think he'll do any different when he's elected.

As for Ryan, Rachel Lucas has all you need to know, along with this QOTD:

Also, I really hope Ryan’s wife Jana is prepared for what’s about to happen to her family. The woman must have guts of steel.

Yep

Massive Traffic Jam

Heading home from work, I noticed an unusual amount of traffic once I hit Millington (TN, for those who don't know).

About halfway through town, I thought "Chick-Fil-A?"

Yep. Wish I coulda grabbed some pictures, the drive thru line was out on the street, around the corner and down the road. Too many cars in the way for me to see what the walk up line was like.

I'd join in, but I hate traffic, and waiting in line.

The Power of Us ...

... through the NRA. Here is a list of the 51 Senators who sent a letter to the White House saying the Second Amendment is non-negotiable, re: the UN Arms Trade Treaty.

The media and anti gunners (yeah, yeah I know) like to cry about the power of the NRA, but the power lies with us, its members. They need to acknowledge that, but I'm not holding my breath.

Another Obama Gem

Buried in one paragraph of this story is this little comment:

He spoke of community policing strategies and mental health centers, or programs that steer people away into safe activities instead of gang violence, of ensuring that parents and teachers step in to fill a hole in a child's heart "that government alone cannot fill."
Emphasis and a big, hearty WTF? mine.

Notice, it is we parents that have to do the stepping. The .gov is already there.

The mask, it is slipping, yes?

Thanks to Moogie for the pointer.

The Difference Between Narrow Victories vs Blowouts...

... appears to be one percentage point.

Here's a 2008 headline:
Obama won 52-46, I guess winning 53-46* is somehow narrower....

OMG Sarah Palin is SO St00pid!

She's gone and done it again, made all those thoughtful progressives pee themselves.

See, in a recent news bit, she mentioned how Paul Revere warned the British that the Americans were preparing for war on his famous ride. Those learned liberals (as well as conservative Palin haters), whose whole frame of reference on the issue is a poem, jumped on it as yet another example of how st00pid she is*.

However, just like the Great Boston Tea Party Incident**, she was right. I wonder, does she do it on purpose? I would

Here's a round up of the hyperventilation.

* Of course, calling people st00pid is what they do. Even a Harvard MBA is st00pid if he doesn't think the way he should.

** I don't really put this on the same level, but close enough. Besides, it's the reaction that's fun to watch.

I really gotta get me another laptop. Lots of good stuff out there these days. Continue Reading

Let me get this straight

CBS does a miniseries about the Reagans, Reagan fans get mad and squash it, and it was a Good Thing.

Now, the History Channel does a series about the Kennedys, Kennedy fans get mad and squash it, and it's a Bad Thing?

Am I getting this right?

And yes, I am aware The Reagans aired on Showtime, and I'm sure The Kennedys will air somewhere as well, even though Showtime has already said it won't do it.

Maybe the real test of broadcast bias will be how far down the food chain The Kennedys will have to go to get on air....

The National Rifle Association Strongly Opposes the Nomination of Andrew Traver to Head BATFE

via email:

The National Rifle Association of America strongly opposes President Obama's nomination of Andrew Traver as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). Traver has been deeply aligned with gun control advocates and anti-gun activities. This makes him the wrong choice to lead an enforcement agency that has almost exclusive oversight and control over the firearms industry, its retailers and consumers. Further, an important nomination such as BATFE director should not be made as a "recess appointment," in order to circumvent consent by the American people through their duly-elected U.S. Senators.

Traver served as an advisor to the International Association for Chiefs of Police's (IACP) "Gun Violence Reduction Project," a "partnership" with the Joyce Foundation. Both IACP and the Joyce Foundation are names synonymous with promoting a variety of gun control schemes at the federal and state levels. Most of the individuals involved in this project were prominent gun control activists and lobbyists.

The IACP report, generated with Traver's help, called on Congress to ban thousands of commonly owned firearms by misrepresenting them as “assault weapons,” as well as calling for bans on .50 caliber rifles and widely used types of ammunition. The report also suggests that Congress should regulate gun shows out of existence and should repeal the privacy protections of the Tiahrt Amendment -- all efforts strongly opposed by the NRA and its members.

Traver also participated in an extremely deceptive NBC Chicago report (http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local-beat/Assault-Weapons-Surge-in-City-69620227.html) in which he referred to "the growing frequency of gang members and drug dealers using heavy caliber military-type weapons" and described them as if they were machine guns: "Pull the trigger and you can mow people down." Traver and his agents provided the reporter with a fully automatic AK-47, with which she was unable to hit the target. He then said that stray bullets are "one of the main problems with having stuff like this available to the gangs."

As the Agent-in-Charge of Chicago’s BATFE office, Traver knows that fully automatic firearms are not available through normal retail channels--the opposite of what was implied in the report.

An agency involved in the regulation of a fundamental, individual right guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution should not be led by an individual with a demonstrated hostility to that freedom. For that reason, the NRA strongly opposes Andrew Traver to head the BATFE and urges President Obama to withdraw this ill-advised nomination.
The Obama administration putting an anti-gun guy from Chicago in charge of the ATF? I'm shocked!

Interesting Story of Tennessee District 8

Via Real Clear Politics:

The 8th District is the northwestern corner of the state. It is the lineal descendent of a district represented by Davy Crockett. In a precursor to later threats made by Hollywood celebrities, he threatened to leave for Texas if Martin Van Buren were elected president; when the Texas Revolution began, he did just that.

Crockett was an anti-Jacksonian and his son, who later represented the district, was a Whig – the district generally sided with the anti-Democratic forces (including one “Know Nothing") up until the Civil War. But it couldn’t quite stomach the Republican Party, and save for one brief episode in 1872, has elected nothing but Democrats ever since. To be sure, these were conservative Democrats in the Southern tradition, like Robert “Fats” Everett and later, John S. Tanner.

Tanner decided to retire this year after two decades in the House. On the Republican side, Republicans nominated farmer/gospel singer Steve Fincher. The Democrats nominated state Senator Roy Herron. Both candidates have raised over a million dollars, which buys a lot of advertising in Jackson. This district is still conservative Democratic at its core and Herron is a good candidate, but in a year like this, the playing field is probably tilted a bit toward Fincher.

So, after decades over a century of Democrat control, my district may very well become Republican. That's gotta sting.
