Folks, I found video of Robb Allen, taken while he was in the Marines:

That's some good D&C there, bro!

Ok, maybe that wasn't Robb.... Continue Reading

Quick Links

Here is my linky-no-thinky for the day:

Bitter has the Charlton Heston tribute up over at her place, the one they played at the banquet. Definitely worth the time to watch.

Squeeky's got (another) a gun. Got a good deal on it, too.

Shamalama wonders Which OS are You? Well, I'm

You are HP-UX. You're still strong despite the passage of time. Though few understand you, those who do love you deeply and appreciate you.

It's about the most complete rundown of the ATF's misdeeds as you'll find, ever.

This is what helped lead to the ATF shake-up we've been hearing mumblings about.

Let's hope there are still people in the ATF willing to do the right thing. Continue Reading

Tacky Princess Don't Like Guns

Picked this up via Google News Alerts:

Free Gun With Car Purchase

Of course, we don't live in Butler, MO, where car dealers give away a free gun with every purchase. That's right. You read that correctly. A free gun with the purchase of a car. Um hmmm. Perhaps, that would make the process even less painful... Of course, buyers can opt for a gas card worth $250 instead of the gun coupon, but sources say that only a couple of folks have chosen that option so far.

Can you say redneck?
Can you say bigot?

The very next sentence should provide her with a clue:
Apparently, this dealer's sales have quadrupled since offering this lovely little incentive.
Lovely, indeed. Looks like the salesman's on to something.
When interviewed, Billy Bob Joe the General Manager touted this promotion as a way for the citizens of his town to protect themselves against the violence that's happening all across America.
You have your redneck-isms wrong. Joe always comes before Bob in the masculine. If used in the feminine, then Bobbie comes before Jo. Jeez, if you want to talk down to us, at least get the names straight. Ok, at least you got Billy right, that should count for something.

She ends up her little snit with the following:

This story wouldn't be complete without this final little nugget:

The town of Butler, MO where this promotion is being held is a booming metropolis of 4,200 people. The police chief reports that there hasn't been an armed robbery in over 25 years. Um, yeah...

I assume her point is because of the low crime rate, there is no justification to have a gun giveaway. But I have to ask, what criminal in their right mind would try something in that town? The potential victims might be armed, after all.

On a side note, they have rednecks in Montana?

Rolling Thunder

Rolling Thunder makes the news:

For 21 years now, Rolling Thunder has led a "Ride for Freedom" along the National Mall during Memorial Day weekend, a full-throttle demonstration in support of soldiers held captive or missing in action. On Sunday, riders began at the Pentagon, rode across the Memorial Bridge and gathered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
I've ridden in local events with these folks. Good people, for sure.

The President had some nice words:
"You've done a lot for the country, and the troops appreciate you, and the veterans appreciate you, and your president appreciates you," Bush told the group.
Looking at our current set of heirs apparent, I wonder which of them would meet with a bunch of bikers and say things like that?

Here's a hint: There wouldn't be a "D" involved. Continue Reading

Memorial Day Roundup

Here's a roundup of Memorial Day postings:

Sailorcurt recalls the words of Ronald Regan:

When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men.
As I keep getting closer to 50, I like to joke that I'm moving into "venerable" status. Today's the day to remember those who never will.

Lawdog has a picture from Michael Yon. Having been to many of these ceremonies, both on active duty and as a member of the PGR, I have to say it doesn't get any easier seeing that.

Squeeks tells us of the Star Spangled Banner:
When sung properly, this song gives me chills.
Kim Du Toit has a writeup of a veteran he once knew:
But he had done his duty, for God, King and country, and he never regretted it. Not once did he ever say things like “If I’d known what I was getting into, I’d never have done it.” As far as he was concerned, he had had no choice—and that instinct to do good, to do the right thing, governed his entire life.
A attitude not held by many in today's society.

Next is this great picture by Tam. Check out the comments, too.

Finally, I'm saving Roberta's for last, because it reflects how I feel about today:
A holiday is a day away from work (for many) for a reason and that reason is not only to make the proper Ritual Grimaces; it is a time away, a time to set down your tools and your habits and consider your world and how it got the way it is.

...

Take time to remember and honor them -- and take time to consider what you have done and will do with their gift .
Exactly.

Remember, folks, we don't "celebrate" Memorial Day, we observe it. If you do hoist a few brews today, that's fine. If I had died serving my country, I'd want you to. Just remember why you're doing it.

For me, today is for Specialist Joe Torres, the only troop of mine I've ever buried. Continue Reading

Oh Hell Yes

Joe Huffman says:

...I have decided to make Thursday April 24th 23rd 2009Boomershoot Gun Blogger Day. On this day gun bloggers will be given media credentials and a special behind the scenes tour of and participation in Boomershoot 2009.
What I really like, though is his way of establishing what a gun blogger is:
"Frequent posts about gun use or politics" will be defined at my whim on a case by case basis.
Honesty, what a concept.

Update: Date corrected.

I certainly will try my best to get there.. Continue Reading
