Man Shot 3 Times Claims He Was Gunned Down Over Pro-Obama Shirt

Dube Egwuatu told the Mail he was purchasing a cell phone when a stranger started shouting racial slurs over his shirt featuring the presidential candidate’s face and the word “Believe.”

Egwuatu zipped up his jacket and headed for his car, but as he turned it on, the gunman opened the passenger side door and shot him three times, hitting him in the face, hand and shoulder.

Holy crap! (you think) That's nuts!

Then, of course, you read:

A piece of metal was removed from his jaw from the attacker’s gas-powered ball-bearing pistol, the Mail reported.

(emphasis mine)

That, my friends is what's commonly known as a BB gun. Or at worst, a pellet gun. I wonder why they didn't just call it that?

I've reported this media sensationalism before, in a effort to get the bullshit-o-meter established on this subject. Ordinary people browse these headlines, shake their heads and continue to wonder whether having guns in society is a Good Thing.

I'm Glad They Arrested This Monster!

Our lands are safer now that this heinous criminal is behind bars:

His alleged crime was shooting a fellow pupil, a 9-year-old, in the back of the neck with a bean.

Yes, boys and girls, a bean. Like in pea shooter, but I guess this time it was a more powerful "bean shooter", which, as everybody knows, is the "assault weapon" of pea shooters:

The 10-year-old was arrested at 7:54 a.m. and charged with assault in the third degree with intent to cause physical injury, and reckless endangerment in the second degree for using a pea shooter while on a bus, police said.

Your tax dollars at work!

School officials declined to comment.

Out of sheer embarrassment, no doubt.

The child who was hit was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, with pain and swelling at the area of impact. He was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Diagnosis: Owwie.

More BB Gun Nonsense

This time from once-Great Britain. Here's the headline:

Boy, 8, shot five times in playground attack

Holy crap! At least until you start reading.

The 12-year-old, from Matlock, allegedly held a BB gun about a foot away from the youngster before firing five shots at his face, body and legs. He suffered minor injuries.

Of course he did, it was a freakin' BB Gun, people.

In once-great Britain, however, the possession of the BB gun could

lead to six months imprisonment

Also,

"Carrying an air weapon in public, loaded or not, is also an offence.

Maybe there needs to be a sausage involved?

What should happen in this case is the 12-year old be held down so the 8-year old could shoot him six times, while being chewed out by his father. Continue Reading

Wicked BB Gun

James Lileks, in running down the crime report for his city, recalls a BB gun incident:

My cousin shot me in the butt with a BB gun when we were out in the woods at the farm once. To paraphrase Johnny Cash: he shot a man in Harwood / Just to see him cry. So I can tell you what it feels like: it hurts.

“A man was at the hospital with a BB-gun wound to his arm. He said that he and a buddy were joking around and shot themselves with a BB gun to see what it was like. Police told the man he could not shoot the BB gun inside the city limits.”

Bonus line:

“Police also advised him not to shoot himself.”

When shooting BB guns at people, it's best to shoot at others, not yourself. Distance and denim is your friend.

BB Gun Lockdown

I guess it's all BB guns all the time here at the Alehouse:

According to school officials, Grace Warner Elementary School was locked down for a short time Thursday morning when a sixth grade girl accidentally shot a third grade girl on the playground with a BB gun.

The girl who was shot was not hurt and returned to class.

The "shooter" was taken to Jan Evans juvenile detention center. Authorities say they might arrest the boy who brought the gun to school.

Kudos to the person who put the quotation marks around the word "shooter".

Don't get me wrong, if someone were to shoot me or mine with a BB gun, action would be taken, but it wouldn't involve the police, detention facilities, or charges.

That's when we adults get together and discuss BB gun use and safety, remove BB gun rights from the shooter, and ground them for a week. After the spanking, of course.

CRIME: Teen accused of shooting boy with BB gun

The boy told police he heard the bang and saw the flash, then felt something hit his right leg. Though he was in pain, the boy said he was scared and kept riding his bike until he rounded the corner at Washburn Street.

Officers responded to the scene and saw a small mark on the boys right leg.

That's one mean BB gun, I tell ya (emph mine).
