Christmas Observation
I'm sure everybody has issues with "Christmas" starting so early at the various stores around town, decorations popping up right after Halloween (or before in some cases).
But why, a week before Christmas, are the stores taking all their decorations down? The ones for sale, I mean. Went to Lowe's over the weekend to pick up a timer (mine burnt out the other day), and there's no more decoration stuff for sale.

So, a 4 Year Old Boy Wanted to be With Daddy for Christmas
So, he grabbed a beer, snuck out of the house, did a little burglary and got caught by the cops.
Dad's in jail, you see.
An exercise in math from Captain Capitalism, in comments.

Obama = MLK
This mornings "news" stories were interesting, to say the least. One time, I heard that "many people think President Obama shouldn't be getting the Nobel Peace Prize".
Of course, the media being what it is, it was because his country is at war, not because he hasn't done a thing to earn it.
Then I hear him being compared to Martin Luther King, Jr.
The thing is, Dr. King had done plenty by the time he was given the Prize. Here's a quick rundown:
Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955)
Co-Founded the SCLC (1957)
The Albany Movement (1961)
Birmingham Campaign (1963)
March on Washington (1963)
Then:
Nobel Peace Prize (1964)
I'd say he'd done plenty to merit the award.
Also, via Instapundit, I see the President himself invokes Dr. Kings name:
"when you look at the wall -- Michelle and I were commenting on the fact that when Dr. King won his price it had a galvanizing effect around the world, but also lifted his stature in the United States in a way that allowed him to be more effective. And that's a legacy of the Nobel Committee that we're very grateful for."The urge to snark is almost overwhelming, but I'll refrain for now.
The hell I will. Let me translate:
"Thanks for the award, guys - you like me, you really like me!" Continue Reading

Titan Thoughts
So, we lost to the (still unbeaten) colts, and now our playoff chances are slim, moving towards none. Music City Miracles has an excellent rundown. It involves either the Broncos or chargers losing out the rest of the season, which isn't bloody likely.
That's ok, we can concentrate on identifying our weaknesses (return game, secondary, receivers) and getting Vince better settled in his position.
It was a good run, and we still have a chance, but I doubt you'll be hearing any more playoff talk from me.

Pearl Harbor
Or Operation Z, as it was referred to by the attackers, took place 68 years ago today. Remember their sacrifice, and, if you happen to know anyone who survived that day, tell them "thank you".
They won't be around much longer.

VA to Survey Veteran Households
Good:
WASHINGTON – Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched a national survey of Veterans, active duty service members, activated National Guard and reserve members, and family members and survivors to learn if they are aware of VA services. You'd be surprised how many people don't know about VA programs.

Papa John's Pizza to Donate Profits to Families of Slain Police Officers
I first heard about this on Facebook, and here is the story (emphasis mine):
According to the Assistant Chief of the Tukwila Police Department, all Papa John's locations in King, Kitsap and Pierce county will donate 100% of their profits from Tuesday, December 8th and Wednesday the 9th next week to the families of the four slain Lakewood police officers.
So, if you're in Western Washington State, go get a pizza or ten.
Well done, Papa John's.

New Threat to Our Ammo Supply
Via SayUncle (emphasis mine):
As demand for ammunition continues to outpace supply, it is critically important that an amendment authored by Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) to a seemingly obscure hazardous material bill (HR 4016) be attached to the legislation during consideration on the House floor. When the bill passed out of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Graves secured a commitment from Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, to allow a vote on this amendment. The amendment being pushed by Graves will help protect the shipment of materials necessary for the manufacturing of ammunition. Without the Graves Amendment, the rate of production will slip, perhaps precipitously. In-turn, decreased production of ammunition will lead to decreased availability. This will lead to an increase in ammunition prices directly affecting consumers. Given the current high demand for ammunition, passage of the Graves Amendment should be considered critical to gun owners, law enforcement and the military. Floor action on the bill is anticipated within the next three weeks.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry – is encouraging all hunters and sportsmen to contact Rep. Oberstar and urge him to support the Graves Amendment. Chairman Oberstar intends to bring HR 4016 to the floor prior to the end of the session (most likely between Dec. 8 and 22), so time is of the essence.Congressman Oberstar can be reached at: (202) 225-6211
