Driving away your customers is a bad idea.
The Beale Street Merchants Association and Performa Entertainment announced Wednesday that they will ban guns on Beale Street.

... security will be supplied with metal detector wands at every entry point onto Beale.
So, not only are you driving away lawful gun owners, but you're also going to drive away everyone else that does not wish to be treated like a criminal (or, in Memphis' case, a public school kid).
I'm glad I don't have an economic interest in that area. They need to take a look at 4th Street Live in Louisville. Not only is it a nicer party district, it had loads of gun-toting customers there just last year, resulting in - nothing.
Oh, my Buckeye cards showed up last week. Looks like I'll be handing out quite a few. I'll bring them to the blog meet Saturday for folks who might want to take some back with them.

I wonder if a "live performance art piece" could be approved for the area to drive home the point.
Get a bunch of volunteer to sit around in the various restaurants; then at a certain time -- heavy dinner crowds-- a "gunman" armed only with his/her fingers walks through shooting the various planted dinners.
Time a "police response" then pass out the Buckeye cards to the non-acting customers.
Dramatic - a little scary but with no blood, no weapons it could make a point. Probably would never get approved through.
So I have never been to Memphis, and I do not know the answer to this question: is Beale Street an actual street, or is it just a name for a privately-owned shopping area?
In any case, the restaurants of TN are pretty much boned regardless, considering the number of morons who are threatening not to go to restaurants that do not post. I wonder if they realize that people have been legally and safely carrying firearms into fast-food joints for years...
It's an actual street, two blocks of which are blocked off to traffic so the drunks can stumble about in relative safety.
It's where the tourists go to party.
As for the restaurants, I'm waiting to see how it all plays out.
If they all start wanding people, their business will go down quicker than a cheerleader on prom night.

As I see it,they are creating two blocks of victim zones for criminals,who now know that all in that area are disarmed.
I also have a interesting question. If you don't go into a resturant,but remain on the public areas,how can the security prohibe a law abiding permit holder from carrying. After all,it is a public area,and not private property? I hope I am correct in that assumption. If so,it is a lawsuite just waiting to happen.
