Clips vs Magazines

Found this on the Intertubes after hearing my son talk about "clips":



Here's my theory on why the term "clips" is used a lot. The reason is clips came first. When removable magazines supplanted the clip, the term stuck.

I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

Then again, you'd be surprised what makes sense to me.
