Why MLK Day Doesn't Mean Much any More

Richard Thompson over at Mediaverse: Memphis links to a Boondocks episode that pretty much describes why I'm not thrilled with MLK Day.

Don't get me wrong, I know what Dr. King stood for was a Good Thing. It's just those who hold themselves up as his successors are doing a pitiful job of it. Does anyone really see Sharpton and Jackson as carrying on Dr. Kings legacy? Even his own family does a poor job of it, seemingly more interested in the money than the message.

The whole "content of character" thing has fallen by the wayside, and we as a country are worse off for it.

Obama might not be good as President, but he sure has the speaking chops to get some positive messages out there.
