More on the TN Carry Bill

Unc points to this (somewhat) good news on the TN carry bill presently sitting with the House. He also references past actions by the House to prevent this bill from becoming law.

The thing is, this good news stems from a Nashville Rep getting drunk as a skunk and then getting popped for it. Said Nashville Rep lost his seat in the Criminal Practice Subcommittee over this. It was the selfsame Rep who blocked the bill last time. However:

Rep. Kent Coleman, D-Murfreesboro, was initially named to replace Briley as chairman on an interim basis by House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh.

Naifeh said Tuesday he has made Coleman's appointment permanent.

What's to say Coleman won't do the same thing? Well, he does:

"It has a much better chance of passage this year than it has since I've been in the Legislature," said Coleman, who added that he personally has "an open mind" on whether the bill should become law.

Nice to hear, but read the whole thing. The bill may still not see the light of day.

Naifeh, who opposes the bill, can vote on any committee or subcommittee of theHouse.

After all, it's really Naifeh doing the blocking, isn't it?

We shall see.
