Area Residents Plan Memphis Tax Day Tea Party Rally
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (April 5, 2009) - A tax day tea party rally will be held at 5 PM, April 15th at Audubon Park at the corner of Southern and Perkins Extended. The theme for the family friendly event is “Cut the Pork, Reduce Taxes.”
Tea parties have been triggered by comments made by CNBC’s analyst Rick Santelli on February 19th. While discussing the Stimulus Bill and the mortgage rescue plan, Santelli called for a Chicago Tea Party to protest “government promoting bad behavior.” A video of Santelli can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Since February, tea parties have been springing up all over the country. Groups of concerned citizens make up the grass roots, non-partisan effort. Stephanie Brown, a Shelby County resident, is spearheading the Memphis Tea Party. According to Brown, “The purpose of the tea party is to let our elected officials know we are tired of our government over-stepping boundaries, over-spending, and over-taxing. The tea party is not about blame or political party. We encourage all Memphians and Mid-Southerners to bring posters and signs, and get their message to Washington.”
The Memphis Tea Party will be held simultaneously with local tea parties nationwide. Popular talk show radio host Mike Fleming will be broadcasting from the tea party. Over thirty tea parties are scheduled for the tri-state area. Additional information about the Memphis Tax Day Tea Party Rally is available at http://www.reformpolitix.com/.

Going to the one in Atlanta, heard Hannity will be there.
One minor problem with the parties is that a lot of people might not be aware of what they're actually calling for and their underlying ideology. To solve that, let me suggest printing out some Objectivist materials and handing out copies; I'm sure there are plenty of introductions on the web you can use.
Also, be sure and wear your John Galt t-shirts (see johngaltgifts.com) and bring a copy of Atlas Shrugged. Take the time necessary to make big signs that everyone can read no matter how far away they are. One I saw said, "We're all John Galt now". Or, just keep it short and sweet: "No Taxes" or the like. It's time to show the moochers in DC and every where else throughout the U.S. that we're fed up and we aren't going to take it anymore!
P.S. The more John Galt signs the better. And, the greater the chance that Instapundit will link to your photos!
And there will be photos aplenty, I assure you.
Reform Politix is hosting its second tea party on July 4 at Patriot Lake (Shelby Farms Park) from 1pm-4pm. What a great way to celebrate America!
