Eyewitness News, the Anti - Commercial Appeal

Kudos to Eyewitness News for putting up some firearm information that can actually save lives:

Firearms Experts Offer Advice for First Time Gun Buyers

MEMPHIS, TN - Buying your first gun. If you're not a gun person or you haven't grown up around guns, the purchase of a firearm can be daunting.

Three local firearms experts talked with myEyewitnessNews.com about the best gun to buy if you're looking for a weapon to keep in your house for security.

And thanks to Unc for the pointer.

Good reporting, although. Buckshot won't go through walls and don't have to aim them..really now?

And snubbies for first time shooters,um - no. Go with either a 4-inch 38 or a good semi auto.

Besides that,it is nice to see a positive report from the media. Hey,at least they did say that semi-auto AK shoot cop killing bullets. So, I guess I can't bitch too much.

It would have been nice to get the advice from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Tom Givens is in Memphis... The shotgun racking noise "intimidation" is piss poor advice, the revolver advice is oversimplified at best...nice try. Eyewitness news should find some competent instructors...

Wow - that was refreshingly...normal. I, took, might have recommended a less-snubby revolver, and maybe backed off on pushing the 12-gauge (I believe the 20 leads to more practice and can be had in smaller configurations - better for us littler people).

But overall - a TV news report that dealt with firearms ownership like something normal, regular people might want to do? Two tails wagging!

Birdshot over buck was a stupid recommendation they included. Birdshot doesn't reliably penetrate birds, much less clothed people. Proven more than once in gunfights. Ask Dick Cheney's non-dead hunting buddy who got shot in the face! Other than that, it wasn't horrid for MSM.

Abby! How ya doing!

I think a lot of this advice comes from "How would I react" instead of "How would a possibly drugged-out predator react", especially with regards to the shotgun thing.

I watched Best Defense last week where they did a test to see what round penetrated what.

9mm penetrated the most, 00 buck second, 45 ACP third, and surprisingly to me,.223 fourth.

They figured the .223 bullet was too light to carry far, regardless of the power behind it.

Abby! I've been looking for your blog for months. I stumbled across it late last year, read it all, and then lost track.
