Firehand points to this piece in Salon, found via Jonah Goldberg:
The alternative to the Southernization of the U.S. is the Americanization of the South -- a process that was not completed by Reconstruction and the New Deal and the Civil Rights era, which can be thought of as the Second Reconstruction. The non-Southern states, through their representatives in Congress and the executive branch, and with the help of enlightened Southerners, need to use the power of the federal government to put a stop to the Southern conservative race-to-the-bottom strategy once and for all.Ho-lee sheepshit, y'all. We dumb rednecks need us some re-educatin'. Pardon me while I go hump my cousin.
And the line gets a little clearer....

Americanization must mean "taxes", denial of rights to minorities by the democrat party, and a more powerful invasive central government.
I'd rather hump my cousin then deal with more of that failed crap!
Yeah, the focus of that story seemed to forget the whole "competition" aspect.
Being a dumb cousin-humping redneck, I may be wrong, but I seem to recollect that Reconstruction, the New Deal, and the Civil Rights era were necessary because of southern Democrats, not conservatives.
Hmmm...
The only thing missing from this was the word "reeducation", and this entire diatribe would have fit in very well in another time...
They are just jealous that now all of the manufacturing, information, and government jobs are moving down here to escape oppresive taxes, regulations, and unions.
Let them rant and rave. This time the manufacturing advantage is on our side ;)
Ha!
You got that right.
