Just heard Charlie Crist, Florida's Republican Governor, articulate how he thinks his party should move forward.
He said the party should be a party of "Hope" and "Inclusiveness". While I like these attributes, I think embracing those terms are not the way to go. They're better off walking the walk (like they're doing now), not talking the talk in this area.
Oh, he also said the party never got away from their core values. I almost choked on my coffee.

And people wonder why such a wishy-washy state would love such a wishy-washy governor....
Crist isn't a bad guy. He certainly doesn't toe the party line. Times like this he seems like a lot more fluff and less substance, but back when he first took office, he made some drastic moves to cut gov't spending, yet maintain a lot of his popularity. He does command a lot of respect from his base, while still appealing to moderates and even some bleeding-heart liberals. This can be a good thing since he is (based on what I can tell) making a move to play in national politics. I fully expect to see him as part of the next Republican-run executive branch.
On the other hand, he panders far too often to the environmental lobby. Stupid hippie.
I had heard he was pretty straight, but what he said this morning really put me off.
He appears to be more of a typical politician to me. The GOP has strayed tremendously from their core values, and have lost a couple elections in a row because of it. Its not that the Republican brand is damaged, whatever the hell that means, its that there appears to be very, very little difference between the Dems and the GOP now.
