Big Brother in Your Car

Not content with OnStar, it looks like Our Government will mandate the use of black box technology in our automobiles by the year 2012:

By the end of 2012, car buyers won't have a choice as to whether their new car is equipped with a 'black box,' or Electronic Data Recorder -- they will be federally mandated to carry one. These devices track information that could be useful to the manufacturer in determining exactly what is, or has been, going on with a car.

Useful to the manufacturer? Why then is it going to be mandated by the .gov? So they can spy on us, that's why.

h/t to Kim duToit, who really should blogroll me* before he rides off into the sunset.

* Or at least a link, dammit.
