Let's have some sanity concerning guns
By Denise Tiller, Midwest Voices Panelist 2008
So, here we are, post-Heller and folks are making their adjustments to the anti-gun crusade. Here, Ms. Tiller tells us:
I like shooting guns. If I could have one do-over in life, I would go back and accept the position on the University of Nebraska Women's Rifle Team that I turned down when I was in college because I was afraid of the time commitment. When the kids are gone and we have spare time, my husband and I plan to take up shooting.Oh boy, you know where this one's going, right? Straight to Looneyville:
Our founding fathers didn't intend for people to walk around packing guns. The purpose was to protect our homes. So, I guess the term "bear arms" means something other than what the dictionary tells me, does it? So, I guess a muggers desire for my money is more important than my right to self defense, yes? That's what I'm hearing. Once I'm out of my house, it's "game on!" for criminals of all sorts to come get me and mine.
We never need people carrying guns in government buildings, schools, churches, and, yes, even stores.
What I did there? I linked to situations where an armed person could have stopped, or did stop, an attacker. I bet you put banks and barbershops in that category, too.
Nor does any citizen really need an assault weapon or armor piercing bullets.
You'll have to define those terms for me, because, as far as I know, there's no such thing as an "assault weapon", and truly armor piercing bullets have been outlawed since 1986.
She ends up saying:
Let's go beyond the bluster about second amendment rights and do the right thing.
You first.
