Silencers are Evil!

So says Ivan Weber of Salt Lake City:

Is there anything on this Earth that can be done with silencers that is legal, ethically good or in any way innocent or remotely legitimate?
I dunno Ivan, maybe cut down on noise pollution and hearing loss?
Legal regulation of suppressors varies widely around the world. In some nations, such as Finland and France, some or all types of suppressor are essentially unregulated and may be bought "over the counter" in retail stores or by mail-order as they are considered a great help, along with hearing protection, to preserve the hearing of the user and any onlookers.
Sounds to me like you've seen too many James Bond movies.

Or maybe you just don't know what you're talking about.

Odd how those two devices were invented on the same day...

Oh another thing came to mind:
"Is there anything on this Earth that can be done with alcohol that is legal, ethically good or in any way innocent or remotely legitimate?"

Sub in Cars, books, trees, whatever.

Legality, ethics, and innocence, are all social constucts, and change from person-to-person and nation to nation. I love having a drink after a hard day at work, but there are some who find that practice unethical. Here in the 20s, and many other nations now, alcohol is prohibited.

If this guy wants to project his values on us, he should welcome our values being projected on him.
