Willie Herenton, the mayor who has been overseeing the decline of Memphis for the last 16 years, will leave office on July 31st.
If I were still living in Memphis, I'd be popping a cork right about now.
What the hell, gonna pop one anyway. Bye, King Willie. Good fuckin' riddance.

We're talking about Memphis here. Do you really believe that they'll elect anyone worthwhile to replace him?
Second verse, same as the first.
BTW, I lived there for over four years and owned a house there for almost ten. I may not exactly be a native, but I have seen it firsthand.
Worked in Millington?
Yup. First as a student, then as an instructor when the Aviation class "A" schools were there.
The house I owned (and lived in while I was there) was on Woodburn Drive in the Georgian Hills subdivision of Frasier in north Memphis.
I was there from January '83 to August '84 and again from '87 to '90.
Been back a couple of times for short visits but not someplace I'd want to live.
For that matter, it wasn't someplace I wanted to live when I lived there.
'Course I may be biased by the fact I'm still bitter about how Memphis bit me. I bought the house as a long-term investment and ended up getting burned badly on the deal.
Oh well. Live and learn.
Yeah, Memphis bit the dust in the '90's, Frayser in particular. Whitehaven (where I grew up), too.
