Fun With Headlines

I took one word out of the headline below. Care to guess what word that was?

Lawmakers propose new penalties for using weapon in crime

Ok, I'll tell ya:

People who use assault weapons to commit crimes and even gun dealers who sell the rifles to lawbreakers would face tougher penalties under new legislation, proposed in response to a spate of violence with the high-powered firearms.
How interesting.
If a person buys or sells a semiautomatic or automatic weapon using false identification or identity theft, both the buyer and seller would face a mandatory second-degree felony with up to 15 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but any gun dealer would have to do a background check for a semiautomatic weapon, and of course, the ATF anal probe would be used for an automatic one.

So, who would this law target, and who would most likely feel the ill effects?

I'll give you a hint - not the same people.

UPDATE: More here, and here.

What the hell are they thinking?.

West, By God said...

This is just an attempt to sneak in the concept that "semi-automatic" equals "assault weapon" into Florida law. Currently, no such thing exists.
